Work Place Snacks

Here is something I will never understand, people and their snacking habits at work. I completely get that it helps to have smaller portions throughout the day rather than the traditional 3 meals a day. I also get that some days you may need a bit more than you planned on in the morning. I also will occasionally get a snack from the vending machine. I regret it every time as I pay $0.75 for 4 pretzels but sometimes you need some food.

What I fail to understand is the people that come by the vending machine at work religiously. There are some people that come by and get 2 sodas a day. My office is right across the hall from the vending machine so I see the same faces every day. First off do they not understand the economics of what they are doing? Two cans of soda a day is putting them back $2.00 they could more easily buy a 12 pack and put the cans in one of the many fridges. Same with the chips and snack eaters, I usually buy a large bag of chips or pretzels for the week and put a small amount in a Tupperware container each morning. It is much cheaper that way plus I get to save on the environmental costs of all those bags. Those bags were designed to keep air out so the food stays fresher longer. Well these products were designed almost too well as they also fail to breakdown in garbage dumps.

Luckily http://www.terracycle.net/ does recycle some of these but only certain brands and once you have certain amounts. My wife and I collect the Honest Kids juice packs from http://www.honesttea.com/. The only problem is that we need to collect over 100 before we can send them in. My daughter only gets them when we go out which usually limits her to a couple a weekend so for us to collect that it takes us close to a year. We did finally collect enough to send in the first set but where they ever disgusting after that even with a good cleaning.

My main point for this was to hopefully make some people think a little more about their eating habits and to plan ahead. As I write this 2 more people just got more food from behind me.
