Homebrew: Reuse Spent Grains Revisited - Dog Treats
About a month ago I wrote about an article I read in my homebrew magazine. Well now that I finally had time to brew more beer and that I had an open keg to fill I got to try out one of the recipes. I went for the dog treats this time as I had already had dinner so no need to make pizza plus I figured I would make something for my dog who is a notoriously picky eater. Well not really he will eat anything, so I figured this would be a good chance to verify the recipe.
The recipe called for
6 cups of spent grains
6 cups of flour
1.5 cups of peanut butter
3 eggs and 1 banana
Here is a Picture of the first bowl that came out. With about 4 cups of grains I made a total of 70 treats for my dog.
I didn’t have any bananas so I left that out but will add it next time. So basically I made him peanut butter biscuits. I add all the ingredients together than bake for30 minutes at 350 degrees. The initial review is my dog loves them. I had about 2 cups of grain before brewing the beer and I started the bowl with all the other ingredients during this time. Well after the grains steeped in the water for 20 minutes I probably had closer to 4 cups. So I kind of winged the other ingredients. Next time I will have to measure out the amount of grains when done to do this more exactly. I think I short changed the flour but I can easily fix that next time and as I mentioned my dog didn’t mind.
