NJ to Boost Recycling Funding

New Jersey Cities, Towns and Counties will be receiving a larger amount of money from the State DEP in the future according the New Jersey Newsroom. A recently passed bill that levies $3 per ton on garbage will help fund nearly $12.8 million dollars a year for the state. These monies will help defray local municipality’s costs as well as funding education programs. County wide money will go to research and other programs to improve their programs. The state already has a very effective recycling rate though that has been falling in recent years. Some of this is due to lighter materials being used in products and declines at retail stores which utilize a lot of cardboard materials. These efforts by the state should help supplement local budgets and improve their efficiencies.
